Hesburgh honored by CCUSA

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — A Roman Catholic social services organization has honored the Rev. Theodore Hesburgh, president emeritus of the University of Notre Dame.

Catholic Charities USA says Hesburgh received the agency's Centennial Medal on Saturday in Alexandria , Va. It recognizes the contributions of individuals and organizations to reducing poverty in the United States and the work of Catholic Charities staff and volunteers.

Agency President and CEO Rev. Larry Snyder says Hesburgh's life has been one of devotion to education and service to his church. He notes Hesburgh's dedication to the nation includes serving on 16 presidential commissions including the Civil Rights Commission.
