DETROIT (AP) - U.S. Rep. Peter Hoekstra says he's running for Michigan governor in 2010.

The Republican from Holland made the announcement this morning on WJR-AM and says he plans to file formal paperwork this afternoon in Lansing.

Hoekstra, 55, was elected to the U.S. House in 1992. He says the state needs a new vision.

Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm can't run for re-election because of term limits.

Other likely GOP candidates include state Sen. Tom George, Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land, Attorney General Mike Cox and Ann Arbor venture capitalist Rick Snyder.

Other possibilities include Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard and businessman David Brandon.
