"Knocked Up" and "Superbad" star Seth Rogen will play the male lead in Kevin Smith's comedy "Zack & Miri Make a Porno."
The Weinstein Co. and Dimension Films production will feature Rogen as the partially eponymous Zack and Elizabeth Banks as the partially eponymous Miri.
Rogen and Banks previously both appeared in the hit comedy "The 40-Year-Old Virgin."
"Getting Seth in this flick is like suddenly growing an extra six inches in the crotch," says Smith in a typically profane statement. "And as if that wasn't awesome enough, we scored the comedically and aesthetically gifted Elizabeth, too. Cast-wise, I'm now extremely well-hung."
Scheduled to begin production in January in Pittsburgh, "Zack & Miri Make a Porno" is almost deceptively self-explanatory. Lifelong friends Zack and Miri make an adult feature film in order to get out of debt. In the process of experiencing the world of raunchy cinema, they begin to suspect that their feelings are deeper than platonic.
Smith wrote and will direct "Porno," his first film behind the camera since "Clerks 2."
Smith adds "I wrote the part expressly for Rogen because he's a funny as f*ck comedy god and we're insanely lucky he said 'yes.' Dude coming on board is a total mitzvah. And in order to show my appreciation, as well as fit in better with Seth, Harvey and Bob, Scott and I will be converting to Judaism. Bar Mitzvah invites are in the mail."
Rogen had a big summer as both "Knocked Up" and "Superbad," which he also co-wrote, made over $100 million at the domestic box office. Rogen co-wrote the upcoming "Drillbit Taylor" and co-wrote and stars in next summer's "Pineapple Express."
Currently recurring on NBC's "Scrubs," Banks' recent feature credits include "Invincible," "Slither" and "Fred Claus." She has "Definitely, Maybe" and "Starship Dave" for next year.
