Damage Reported In Southwest Michigan

By Jim Pinkerton

(WSBT) There were reports of damage across our area Thursday night, especially up toward Niles and Buchanan. There were trees and power lines down across Niles-Buchanan Road, blocking the road just west of Niles.

The storm tore through, bringing torrential rains, high winds, and sending people running for cover.

"I started heading for the basement because I wasn't sure what was happening. (reporter: Did you think maybe a tornado?) That's what I thought because it was terrible," said Stoney Janssens, who saw the storm.

"It was nickel sized hail, a lot of high winds, heavy, heavy water," said Chief Larry Lamb of the Niles Fire Department.

Police in Niles say so far, there are no reports of any injuries.
