(WSBT) Nappanee is no longer under a state of emergency, but it still has a long way to go.

Thursday's tornado damaged or destroyed some 200 homes. Many people, including children, have donated their time to help the city get back on its feet.

Hannah Method and her parents came from North Carolina to help her grandparents clean up. But nothing could have prepared her for the sight she would see.

"I never thought it would do that bad damage. I just thought it'd do lots of wind," Hannah said.

120 mph winds leveled her grandparents' garage onto their van and pulled off their roof, but Hannah was still amazed.

"Even my Grandma's china stuff, it's totally standing up," she said.

Hannah was prepared to come to the rescue.

"I told them they could stay at our house for a few days," Hannah said.

Other children went with their parents to survey the damage. While some played and ignored the wreckage around them, others said it made them sad.

The site of destruction taught many children an invaluable lesson.

"We're going to the basement," Hannah said. "I'd go to the basement."
