SOUTH BEND -

Police have charged a woman Friday after a man's body was found at a hotel in South Bend earlier this week.

The St. Joseph County Homicide Unit was called to investigate Tuesday morning after the body of 56-year-old Edward M. Pierce was found at Shirley Motel, located at 6013 U.S. 31 South in South Bend. Officials say a 911 call was made by an employee at the motel.

Police have now charged 42-year-old Teri Rigley with Voluntary Manslaughter, a level 2 felony.

Investigators say Rigley knowingly killed Pierce while "acting under sudden heat by means of a deadly weapon."

An autopsy performed earlier this week found Pierce died from sharp force injury from at least one cutting instrument.

Rigley is being held on a $500,000 surety bond, or $50,000 cash bond. She is currently being held in the St. Joseph County Jail.
