Two underground telephone cables were accidentally cut in a construction mishap Monday afternoon, April 21 in a manhole near Benham Avenue and Chester St. on Elkhart's south side.

According to Frontier Communications spokeswoman Dana Berkes, some 700 to 800 Frontier data and voice customers on Elkhart's south side have been without service since then.

Repair crews are working around the clock performing what Berkes says is, " tedious, hand-splicing" of the cables.

Phone service may not be restored to all those Frontier customers until later this week.
