Two Baroda, Michigan residents credit their dogs with helping to save their lives by waking them up when a fire broke out in their home. Unfortunately, the animals were unable to escape.

This happened around 6 a.m. in the 9000 block of 2nd Street. The fire was very intense and difficult to put down, according to WSBT Correspondent Mark Parren.

It started in the ceiling of the attic, according to the Baroda fire chief. But the cause is unknown at this time.

According to the chief, 12 cats and 2 dogs died in the fire.
