I see where the South Bend Tribune is running a four-part, front-page special report on tattoos. Feel free to comment and tell me I am misguided, but that is a lot more tattoo news than I need. It also sounds like something a local TV station would run on its newscast during one of those so-important ratings periods. I don’t know, maybe the print and TV folks combined consultants.
I am pleased to hear about the many changes planned by the new owner of the South Bend Silverhawks. I went to The Cove several times last summer after the previous round of improvements and I liked the new atmosphere. This should be even better.
Having said that I was not pleased to hear the new owner say he wants the fans to leave The Cove and not really care if the Hawks won or lost. Personally I like rooting for the hometown team.
Just by chance I ran into two people who were burned out of their Park Jefferson apartments and lost everything. I previously did not know either of them but my heart goes out to those two and the many others. And can’t we get some reasonable explanation for this incredible, and in my mind suspicious, series of fires over such few years?
I have already lost count of the number of people who have asked in recent weeks if I think Everett Golson will be Notre Dame’s starting quarterback in 2012. Golson is the talented freshman who red-shirted this past season. I have no idea if he will be the starter, but it is not a good situation for any football team when the fans favorite quarterback is the one who is not playing.
Speaking of football, do you think the big shot NFL decision makers are finally happy that, after so many rule changes, the two teams with the lowest defensive ratings, Green Bay and New England, were actually the favorites to reach the Super Bowl? Of course Green Bay is not going to the Super Bowl, but they would still have had a chance if their offense didn’t drop the ball all day against the Giants.
If getting the streets cleared of snow is any indication, then the new mayor of South Bend is off to a good start.
I have always found it ironic that on MLK day all the government offices shut down, yet the sanitation workers are out there as usual doing their jobs well. What was Doctor King doing in Memphis that fateful day? He was there to get better rights for the sanitation workers. Maybe some year the folks who usually get the day off can go out and pick up the garbage.
