WARSAW – Warsaw police have arrested the man accused of deliberately driving his car into a horse and Amish wagon this past weekend.

The horse was killed in the hit-and-run near Walmart on Sheldon Street just north of U.S. 30 on the city’s north side.

It happened shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday.

The suspect is 24-year-old Francisco Gonzalez of Warsaw.

Police say Gonzalez asked to meet with his attorney before giving investigators a statement.

While the horse died instantly, five Amish boys were thrown from the wagon but only suffered minor injuries.

Gonzalez was booked Tuesday into the Kosciusko County Jail on charges of failing to stop after an accident causing seriously bodily injury and operating while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury.

His bond was set at $2,000.

Warsaw police and the Kosciusko County prosecutor’s office continue to follow-up on the crash investigation and say additional charges may be filed.
