It Is Serious Now

Now a brief check of news from overseas.

In France this has been the driest March through May in 50 years. And the warmest in 110 years.

Several European Nations are rapidly preparing emergency plans to conserve water, give farmers millions of dollars in aid and have the military deliver hay for cattle now trying to feed themselves in parched fields.

The spring of 2011 has been the driest in England since 1910.

In Germany the drought is the worst since they started measuring rainfall in 1893.

Back in France national trains will be used to deliver fodder to livestock farmers.

Also in France, prices for the national treasure, the baguette, are soaring because the wheat crop is suffering.

In the Netherlands river levels have hit a 90-year low.

In England the wheat and barley crops are wilting which is likely to greatly impact beer production.

 In Spain…..

Whoa!  Wait a minute here and let’s back up. We have a natural disaster in the making right before our eyes and lips. Did the man say, “impact beer production”? How in the name of carbon dioxide could we ever let things get this far out of hand?  Surely there must be a hero in waiting out there that can save the beer!

Sadly, Superman cannot solve what is happening to our world.  In fact, solving it may be impossible if the world was filled with super heroes.

Until we unite in a cause that is just and noble for all (and climate change is that cause) we have no chance.

There was a time when the United States could be counted on when the world was in need.

But until we take the politics and huge, self-centered business interests out of the equation we can’t even lead ourselves against this very dire situation.
