The Indiana University men's basketball team is now ranked in the Top 25 in both the AP and ESPN/USA Today polls following Saturday's win against the University of Kentucky.
IU was ranked #18 in the AP Top 25 poll Monday after beating the former #1 ranked team. The team took the #20 spot in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.
"The whole place just erupted. It was so loud you couldn't even hear anybody talk. It was really crazy," remembers Nick's English Hit manager Pete Mikoltias.
The celebration continued to fall out of bars and into the street.
"It was like a movie ending to that. I was up out of my chair screaming," said IU fan Brandy Bruner.
Many said it's a scene Kirkwood hasn't seen in nearly a decade.
"No cars were moving. In fact police had cars stopped so that we could all celebrate in the street," said IU fan Alison Hartnett.
"It was the craziest I've ever seen it since IU made it to the final four," said Matt Sowell, employee of the Indiana Shop.
And with IU seated in the top 20, it will most likely get a lot crazier. Businesses are already having trouble keeping up with the demand. After crushing the Cats, newly printed shirts titled, "we're back," are flying off the shelves.
"They've been selling like crazy, hundreds, and we just got them printed today," said Sowell.
Local bars did some of their best business Saturday. In fact, some are already thinking of ways to cash in on more.
"When IU is winning in basketball it's good for business. It's really good. We'll probably open a little bit earlier if there's day games and also just staff appropriately and expect to be busier," said Mikoltias.
