Hawthorne drive is changing this winter. The Army Engineers have decided to help us with the flooding problem by removing about 100 trees and building a concrete wall. Ugh! The neighborhood was very upset about this, but there is no stopping the government. They started removing the trees in January. We now can see right into Wicker Park. It wouldn't be so bad except for the fact that now they are working on building a concrete wall to fill in where the trees were. How pretty will a concrete wall look?? I can't imagine it looking nicer than the trees that were there. Oh well, how can you stop progress?? Couldn't they have made the ditch deeper?? Just wondering. We are happy that our neighbors will not experience flood problems anymore but sad to see our beautiful street turned into a concrete wall.
