9/13/08 Storm

This evening at 6:52 I received a text message from WSBT 22 stating that there was a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, eight minutes later I received another text stating that we were under a Tornado Warning! This was a woderful way to alert my family to this possible emergency situation as we were outside (away from T.V. and radio) watching our son ride his dirtbike for the last time before he sold it.

After the second text message we raced to the front yard (considering we were already outside) to see this storm. Upon making our way to the roadside, I received a phone call from my parents. They were inside their home in Topeka and had heard that there was possible rotation on the east side of LaGrange. I expressed that we were aware of the weather and that we could see a storm brewing up. I told them we would keep them updated on the weather at our location. As we were watching the awesome clouds moving and shifting we heard this "growl"! I looked at my family and said "Did anyone else hear that?" Nathan, my step-son, said "Yes I did, was that the storm?" Then as we all watched quietly we heard it again! We decided to secure the barn, grab the animals, and head for the basement when we looked straight north and saw the amazing site! From our location, we couldn't tell if it was all the way to the ground but it looked pretty close.

After seeing that the storm was heading away from us we continued to watch the storm and pass on the good deed of calling and alerting our friends and family that were in the path of the storm as to what we had witnessed and that we were alive and able to talk about it!

Thanks to WSBT for offering this life saving service of text messaging. (It also works great for school delays)
